One Down, Two to Go

It's getting down to the wire! Here is a quick little glimpse of what I'm working on right now:

Geese aren't always jerks. Just need to add some gold leaf to this print

A test print of part of a larger print I'm working on for the show. Jackelopes and poppies.
Here is the board before I start carving.  The husband wanted a three eyed bear so a three eyed bear he shall have.

New Adventures in Ink

So I have been practicing using more than one color at a time while rolling the ink on my plate.  It makes some pretty cool looking results,  This Sunflower is a bit subtle. I used red with just a touch of yellow.
This kingfisher is not subtle at all.  I used a mix of blue, turquoise, and yellow.
This was just a little golden scarab.  I'm planning on cutting the page to size and matting it with a dark brown.  should look pretty cool. Who knew that old dictionary paper was good for printmaking?

Making some mini awesomeness

I am working on a few small scale etchings. Still working out the kinks of using plexiglass and hand burnishing the prints since I don't have access to a good enough press at home.  I plan on doing a series of these little guys.

So Many Bugs

Lately I've been on a bit of a bug kick.  The plan is to cut out a bunch of these guys and then print them in interesting configurations.  I want it to look like a specimen collection of insects.  I am thinking of either using pins or a silver pen to make it look like these little guys are actually pinned in there.  My brother also brought up a good idea...

Pop culture bugs!

I have also been playing around with printing over a monotype layer to give my image some color. Lots of fun and I love the effect I'm getting.

Messing around with gesso

I really like the effect I was able to achieve here with a bit of gesso.  In my sketchbook I had started to draw a picture of my dog.  It was turning out terrible so I covered it in gesso leaving the brushstrokes.  Then I went back with a sharpie and drew this bad ass. When I added the color it really emphasized the brush strokes and really added to her character.

Finished Squid Print

This is the finished version of my squid print. Just needed a touch of white guache to make it pop! This was originally part of a print for a larger project.  I just really liked the squid the most and cut him out of the larger piece.
